Banking calendars by year

Bank holidays for payments: Fed, TARGET2 and UK.

The days US ACH and Fedwire, euro TARGET and SEPA, and UK Bacs and CHAPS don’t settle, for 2025 to 2028. Each year’s page lists the closures with their weekdays, the banking days around them and the business days per month.

Federal Reserve bank holidays

The Federal Reserve Banks observe eleven federal holidays (a year has fewer closed days when one falls on a Saturday). FedACH and Fedwire don’t settle on them, and the Nacha Operating Rules count banking days on this calendar, so it sets every ACH settlement date and return deadline.

Why the calendars disagree

A date can be a holiday on one calendar and a normal settlement day on another: Good Friday closes TARGET and UK payments but not the Federal Reserve; Thanksgiving closes FedACH but not SEPA. Cross-border payments need both ends open, so check each currency’s calendar.

Weekends are where they differ most. The Federal Reserve observes a Sunday holiday on the Monday after but stays open the Friday before a Saturday one; the UK moves weekend Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to the next weekdays; TARGET never substitutes.

Sources: the Federal Reserve’s holiday schedule, the ECB’s TARGET closing days and gov.uk’s bank holidays for England and Wales, computed by rule. Unscheduled closures and future one-off UK bank holidays can’t be known in advance. Informational only.
