US Federal Reserve (FedACH, Fedwire) · 2027

Federal Reserve bank holidays 2027: when ACH and Fedwire don’t settle.

9 weekday closures in 2027, plus 2 holidays on a weekend that close nothing, leaving 252 business days. FedACH and Fedwire Funds settle only on these business days, and ACH return and NOC deadlines count them.

Federal Reserve bank holidays 2027

The Federal Reserve Banks observe eleven federal holidays (a year has fewer closed days when one falls on a Saturday). FedACH and Fedwire don’t settle on them, and the Nacha Operating Rules count banking days on this calendar, so it sets every ACH settlement date and return deadline.

On a weekend, so no weekday closes

  • Juneteenth National Independence Day, Saturday, June 19, 2027. Falls on a Saturday: the Federal Reserve Banks are open the Friday before (Friday, June 18, 2027) and close on no other day for it.
  • Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25, 2027. Falls on a Saturday: the Federal Reserve Banks are open the Friday before (Friday, December 24, 2027) and close on no other day for it.

What a closing day does to payments

  • No ACH entries settle and no Same Day ACH windows run; Fedwire funds transfers wait for the next banking day.
  • An ACH entry whose effective date falls on a holiday settles on the next banking day. To pay before a holiday — payroll, for example — date the entry for the banking day before it and send it in time for that day.
  • Return, NOC and reversal deadlines count banking days, so a holiday inside the window moves the deadline out by a day.
  • A fixed-date holiday on a Sunday is observed the Monday after. One on a Saturday is not observed at all: the Reserve Banks stay open the Friday before, so ACH settles that Friday even though many businesses close.
  • Banks set their own branch hours; this calendar decides when ACH and Fedwire settle.

Need a date five banking days out, or the next settlement day after a holiday? The business day calculator does the math on this calendar, and the ACH date calculator turns it into settlement dates and return deadlines.

How the dates are worked out

  • Fixed dates: New Year’s Day (January 1), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4), Veterans Day (November 11) and Christmas Day (December 25).
  • Mondays and Thursdays: Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday (3rd Monday of January), Washington’s Birthday (3rd Monday of February), Memorial Day (last Monday of May), Labor Day (1st Monday of September), Columbus Day (2nd Monday of October), Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday of November).
  • A fixed-date holiday on a Sunday closes the Monday after; on a Saturday it closes nothing (the Reserve Banks open the Friday before).
  • Unscheduled closings announced by the Federal Reserve (such as a national day of mourning) are not included.
  • Juneteenth became a Federal Reserve holiday in 2022; it is not a holiday here in earlier years.
