Refused Notification of Change code
C62 refused NOC code: Incorrect Trace Number
An ODFI sends C62 back to the RDFI to refuse a Notification of Change: incorrect trace number.
What C62 means
C62 is the refused NOC code Incorrect Trace Number
. A refused NOC tells the RDFI that its Notification of Change was itself wrong, so the ODFI and the Originator will not act on it.
- The NOC carries a trace number that doesn’t match the original entry.
What happens next
The refused NOC goes back to the RDFI, which can correct the Notification of Change and send it again. Until a correct NOC arrives, nothing changes in the Originator’s records.
The ODFI may refuse a NOC within 15 days of receiving it.
How C62 appears in a NACHA file
A refused NOC travels like a NOC: a zero-dollar entry in a batch with SEC code COR and an addenda record of type 98. The refused code sits in positions 4–6, followed by the original trace number and details copied from the NOC being refused; the Rules give its layout field by field.
To read a NOC file record by record, open the file in NACHA Navigator, a free sister site that parses NACHA files in your browser without uploading them.
